i liked roccardo tisci's resort collection for givenchy because it had a narrative that originates from his fall 2011 collection. sometimes, designers will create something totally new and fresh each season which i love. but it's also nice to see some visible connection from one season to the next because it provides a glimpse of clothes' evolution. givenchy resort 2012 had definite reference to its fall 2011 collection with sweatshirts cropped above the bust and crocodile-trimmed sun visors that were a twist to its fall's baseball motif hats.
i wasn't expecting a collection like this having seen spring 2011. but i suppose it's not so different considering that (as he did last season) he worked and reworked a single silhouette (loose-fitting sweater, varsity jacket, and knee-length skirt) in a tight, interrelated group of fabrics. i love that givenchy didn't resort to boring pumps but instead added some gold to it. and the panther skirts are amazing. i would wear it for work because nothing says "i'm fierce. don't piss me off" like those skirts!
