Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2011

i love mcqueen so it's hard not to be biased...
but i must say that the silhouettes are starting to look quiet similar for the past three seasons.
nonetheless, i love the structured designs and the lace-up leather boots are to die for.

Marni Fall 2011

i love that marni consistently showcases great, unified looks evry season.
also, i think it is one of the few brands that creates realistically unique pieces for women at every age.

Chloe Fall 2011

hannah macgibbon, the creative designer of chloe for ten years, is leaving the house. it was said that macgibbon was leaving to "pursue new projects" but i think that's more of a code in fashion for "chloe wasn't selling well under her advisory so it was hinted that she should leave." to me it's not a big surprise that she's leaving the house since i felt like i was seeing the same kind of style (that of chiffon blouses with wide-leg trousers) for several season without much creativity. it was an obvious struggle that didn't duplicate the success of chloe under phoebe philo, currently the successful designer behind celine. the house will bring in clare waight keller as replacement. keller worked at the knitwear brand, pringle of scotland. i'm interested to see how keller incorporates (or not) her knitwear background to a design house known for its romantic, fluid designs.

Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2011

if there's another color that i love besides gold, it would be navy blue. and to make things better, domenico dolce and stefano gabbana added fur, lace, and sparkling sequins. half of the show's clothes were "boy clothes" in which models were wearing a jacket, matching trousers cropped right below the knee, a porkpie hat, and oxfords. i liked the other half which were more feminine. i thought the show was fine and agree with nicole phelps of style.com who commented "the designers' tailoring skills are as sharp as ever and no one could accuse them of losing their touch with a sexy dress, but in the end you didn't feel transported anywhere they haven't taken you before."

Givenchy Fall 2011

i wasn't expecting a collection like this having seen spring 2011. but i suppose it's not so different considering that (as he did last season) he worked and reworked a single silhouette (loose-fitting sweater, varsity jacket, and  knee-length skirt) in a tight, interrelated group of fabrics. i love that givenchy didn't resort to boring pumps but instead added some gold to it. and the panther skirts are amazing. i would wear it for work because nothing says "i'm fierce. don't piss me off" like those skirts!

Miu Miu Fall 2011

my first reaction to this collection was "yikes...what happen here...?"
and it still holds true for some of the looks. for example..... the most oddly proportioned, unflattering, boxy shaped coats...! if tall and skinny models look pretty sad wearing the clothes, best bet that the normal person will not look good in it. i mean if natasha poly looks bad in the prada coat (picture 5), it's going to be very hard for you to pull it off. having said that, some of the more reasonable shaped dresses were good. but yea not getting the fur around your belly. maybe miuccia prada is being considerate for your cold tummy during winter...
quiet an iffy collection but the dresses are good and the prints are quiet beautiful. what i did love, though, are the big clutches!

the trouble-some coat

yea...miuccia definitely ran out of ideas when she sketched this coat.
